R&D TAX INCENTIVE PROGRAMME

What is the R&D Tax Incentive Programme?

The R&D Tax Incentive Programme is a South African government initiative to increase the level of research and development conducted by South African companies. The R&D Tax incentive is offered in terms of Section 11D of the Income Tax Act. The R&D Tax incentive allows companies to deduct expenditure on research and development activities from their taxable income. The expenditure which is eligible under the incentive can be deducted at 150% and qualifying capital assets can be depreciated at the rate of 50:30:20.
