South Africa and the Western Cape have large potential to enhance its economic performance via recognizing the role the innovation system can play through the strategic governance of available resources. The first step will be in recognizing the role government, industry and academia can play in enhancing current innovative activity and bolstering opportunities for new innovative sectors in the economy. The Green Economy is a prime example, with numerous opportunities.
